nika + connor
august 2021

The pandemic of 2020 really threw a wrench in wedding plans for so many couples, and Nika and Connor were no different. Nika and I met for the first time in August of 2019 to begin planning the floral arrangements for their summer 2020 wedding. In the spring of 2020 as most of the world shutdown, the couple decided to postpone their nuptials for another year in hopes of being able to celebrate as they’d planned with family and friends in abundance. After two long years, they were finally able to tie the knot in late summer of 2021 at the Dowd Chapel in Boystown with a reception at Founder’s One Nine in downtown Omaha.

Nika was looking for a true boho wedding with lots of bright summer colors, hanging plants and a cozy retro photo backdrop. We kept the table arrangements simple with a few greens and flowers in miscellaneous glass bottles and let the bridal and maid’s bouquets take center stage at the king’s table under hanging macrame plant hangers. For the photo backdrop, vining pothos propagates flanked a sign with their new shared name, surrounded by plants and a retro peacock chair. Polaroid cameras and a photo album were staged next to the backdrop so guests could add their snapshots and words of encouragement to the newlyweds.

Many thanks to the team at Rachel J Events for their seamless planning and execution of the day, photographers The Mullers Photo Co (whose photos Nika graciously shared with me and are shown here), the venue coordinators at the Dowd Chapel and Founder’s One Nine, and of course the bride and groom for allowing me to be a part of their day and create some really fun pieces.
